F.E.I.F.

The Canadian Icelandic Horse Federation became a member of F.E.I.F. in 1984. F.E.I.F. is the one and only organization dedicated to the breeding standards of the Icelandic horse. In English F.E.I.F. stands for "the Federation of European Friends of the Icelandic Horse". One organization from each country where Icelandic horses are found is eligible to become a member of F.E.I.F. As a result, the Icelandic horse is the only breed of horse that enjoys one set of regulations regarding competitions, breeding, and evaluations of mares and stallions. Each member country has a registration procedure approved by F.E.I.F. when they are accepted into the world body. In effect F.E.I.F. is an umbrella organization comprised of affiliate organizations from Iceland and around the world. In North America the only two member organizations are the Canadian Icelandic Horse Federation and the United States Icelandic Horse Congress.
